Forgotten British Films…

Pimpernel Smith 1941 (US Mister V) Based on the theme of The Scarlet Pimpernel, an absent-minded university professor played by Leslie Howard helps certain people escape the Gestapo during the second world war and flee to the UK. An enjoyable film that I now and again dust off and sit down and watch. The plot is a little too unreal but the acting particularly from Leslie Howard is first class and a joy to watch. It was based on a novel by A.G. MacDonnell and also directed by Leslie Howard featuring a host of supporting actors of the time, also includes a short appearance of Oriel Ross the well known painter.
