These are Brighton Sussex UK Promettes of 1952. The Visitor Information Centre of its time. For those men amongst you that like girls with brains there was no better place than Brighton, Sussex, England in the 50s! Formed from ex-models, these girls would offer all types of advice for your holiday stay in Brighton… But no dating though chaps!

Hello Patrick, I’m putting together a self-published book about women in Brighton’s history and am including a short piece about the Promettes. Do you own the copyright for this image? If so I’d be grateful if you could let me know what I need to do to seek permission to use it. Many thanks!

Hi Louise, I would image the copyright on this particular picture has long since expired, picture copyright generally lasts for 50 years unless renewed. As this shot appears to come from the 1950s it is perhaps safe to use. Much on the internet is not copyrighted, but it may be worth a call to Brighton Tourist Office or Council if you wish to put it into a book. Hope this helps and good luck with your book. Best wishes.
